If you have a general interest in holistic nutrition but don’t want to complete a diploma program, you may be interested in the Edison Institute Of Nutrition’s Introduction To Holistic Nutrition Program.
It’s designed to be a general knowledge program for those who want to be able to better care for themselves or their family members, but it does not give you a professional designation.
We also offer many Continuing Education Courses for current practitioners.
No, not at all. Students at the Edison Institute of Nutrition have a wide range of backgrounds. To find out more about the enrolment requirements, visit our enrolment page.
This is an important question to ask! It’s critical to know who will be guiding you in your education and what experience they have to offer.
That goes double for an online program – how will you be able to access and benefit from your instructors’ experience?
Lynne Hinton and Marlene Marshall, the owners of Edison Institute of Nutrition, have over 22 years experience running their own successful nutritional consulting practice, along with continuing educational courses for current practitioners. They have a wealth of knowledge and experience to share with students and are actively involved daily with students. Each of our instructors brings at least 10 years clinical experience to the development of our course curriculum.
But perhaps most important, you’ll have direct access to instructors who are available to support you on an individual basis.

In most jurisdictions, holistic nutritionists are self-regulated through an association, including Canada. They are not regulated by the government. As a result, you aren’t required to be member of a regulated body the way naturopathic doctors, dentists and medical physicians are. However, membership in professional associations like the International Organization of Nutritional Consultants, the Canadian Association of Natural Nutritional Practitioners and the National Association of Nutritional Professionals (USA) does have its benefits, including greater credibility.
The most obvious career opportunity is to go into private practice as a registered holistic nutritionist, but there are many more options available as well.
Below is a list of just some of the fields you can work in as a graduate of the Edison Institute of Nutrition:

Everyone is unique, which you will see as your assessments and consultations unfold. Your Edison Institute education will come from this perspective. You’ll learn to assess and recommend that which is based on your client’s needs depending on their health concerns, health conditions, health history, their beliefs, and their goals. We do not believe in a “one size fits all plan”. We do not focus on any one specific diet. Our program will teach you the many and varied aspects of dietary intake based on the individuals needs not just a theory.
We have two options for tuition payment.
You can pay by the module, which breaks your payment into six separate payments, or you can pay everything up front. Payment up front is $4,300.00, and payment by module works out to $4,800.00 total.

While many schools build their programs around a combination of holistic nutrition and mainstream dietician/medical ideas, The Edison Institute’s program is based only on holistic nutrition. This gives you a more direct window into the art and science of holistic nutrition than many other programs.
As for our program, you’ll find it very in-depth, with a 2000 hour curriculum.
You’ll learn the detailed concepts of critical thinking when it comes to assessing your clients, creating personalized nutrient and supplement recommendations, as well as advanced health issues and how to work with serious cases.
You’ll learn to interpret lab testing, including blood and hair analysis. You’ll also gain access to knowledge on the use and benefits of homeopathic drainage which is not available in any other program.
Beyond that, though, while textbook knowledge is helpful, you need to know how to put it into action. That’s why your Edison Institute instructors are dedicated to working with you on a one on one basis. When you finish your program, you should be able to practice with confidence. In particular, we offer two full courses on how to structure your practice – SYMP1 and SYMP2.
When comparing available programs, make sure you compare the course curriculum in detail and be sure of what your learning outcomes will be, not just the cost or convenience of the program.
Absolutely. We’ll do an advanced standing assessment to determine what subjects you can be exempt from. From there, we’ll create a custom program for you so you don’t need to repeat subjects you’ve studied elsewhere. You can find the application for the Transfer Credit Assessment here.
Thomas Edison once said, "If the doctors of today do not become the nutritionists of tomorrow, then the nutritionist of today will become the doctors of tomorrow."
We don’t run our program on a school year calendar. You can start whenever you’re ready, and you have 3 years from that point forward to finish the program although it can be finished in 1 year depending on the time you have to devote to your studies. This allows you to manage your study time in relation to other commitments that you have.
The Diploma in Holistic Nutrition (DHN) program is a total of 2000 hours, which includes six different modules, each with five subjects per module. Part time students tend to complete it in 120 weeks, while full-time students can complete it in a year. However, these are just averages. The program is designed with flexibility in mind, you can complete it in as much or as little time as you like within a 3-year period.
Edison Institute of Nutrition was founded in 1996. Edison has always been in the forefront of nutrition education being one of the first schools established to teach holistic nutrition. Edison's curriculum is the most comprehensive online holistic nutrition program worldwide.
An EIN graduate has exceeded the minimum education requirements set by the governing associations including IONC, CANNP and NANP. An EIN nutritional consultant has specialized in-depth training spanning over 2,000 hours. An EIN graduate is proficient in assessing an individual’s unique biochemical needs and will make recommendations based on what the client actually requires as no one conforms to norms, averages, or standardized “one-size-fits-all” approaches.
The truly successful practitioner must have training that combines scientific principles with the comprehensive skills of individual assessment beyond the knowledge of nutritional concepts and theories. Upon completion of the Practitioner Program, each graduate will earn their Diploma in Holistic Nutrition which qualifies them for the designation NNCP, RNT, RNCP and/or ROHP through the recognized associations.
We are proud to say that 2016 is our 20th year anniversary of Training Nutritional Consultants Worldwide!
