What clinical assessment programs are in the advanced nutrition practice? | Edison Institute of NutritionEdison Institute of Nutrition offers an Advanced Nutrition Practice course that provides a comprehensive discussion of various clinical assessment methods that are useful for holistic nutritionists who want to put theory into practice. Students are exposed to clinical assessment studies that address underlying causes of a wide range of disorders and prevent degenerative health conditions.

The Advanced Nutrition Practice course is suitable for nutritionists who want to take their client assessments and protocol knowledge to the next level. The course is also recommended for practitioners who are required to meet Continuing Education requirements for a specified number of hours per year in order to renew their association memberships.

The Advanced Nutrition Practice course provides an in-depth study of the following assessment methods and protocols, among others:

  • Body/Mind Nutrition: Discover the principles of body/mind symptoms and how they relate to specific nutritional requirements. Students will learn how biochemical disturbances and nutritional imbalances affect mental functioning. Topics covered include memory, IQ, mood, autism, depression, addictions and eating disorders.
  • Live Cell Microscopy: This assessment tool allows the practitioner and the client to see live blood cells in real time to assess the state of a client’s overall internal environment. Live cell microscopy can indicate low levels of protein, folic acid, iron, Vitamin B12 and fatty acids, as well as indications of bacterial or fungal imbalances.
  • Hair/Tissue Analysis: Hair tissue analysis is a non-invasive method of determining toxins in the body. This type of analysis measures levels of minerals such as magnesium, zinc and calcium which can prove valuable in treating patients with chronic health conditions.
  • ELISA Testing: ELISA, an abbreviation for Enzyme Linked Immunosorbent Assay, is a test that measures antibodies in your blood. It can be used to diagnose conditions such as HIV, Lyme disease, anemia and rotavirus.
  • pH Testing: An unbalanced pH level can affect a client’s energy level, ability to lose weight, contribute to demineralizing the bones, teeth and joints, and other disorders.
  • Thermography: This non-invasive technique uses infrared cameras and computers to analyze temperature variations in the body. Thermography can be used to detect problems with the breast and other parts of the body.

Students in the Advanced Nutrition Practice course also learn to make recommendations for complex cases including cancer, endocrine dysfunction, autoimmune disorders, metabolic syndrome and bowel disorders.
